Irish fuel prices are up to 20% higher than the EU average, The Irish Times reports.
The story is based on the latest update (20-10-08) of the Oil Bulletin of the Directorate-General for Energy and Transport, and the percentages refer to before-tax comparisons of petrol, diesel and home heating oil. The Times says that prices in Ireland have moved in recent months from being much cheaper to much dearer than EU levels.
Industry operators blame the differential on the need to transport the fuel from Britain to Ireland.
